follow rhumb lineThe Rhumb Line is our bi-monthly newsletter.

A rhumb line is a straight line drawn between two points on a chart.  Ordinary cruising people, even world cruisers, follow the rhumb line.

There is another way, known as a Great Circle route.  A Great Circle is a line drawn on the surface of the earth which cuts through the center of the globe.  It is the absolute shortest distance between any two points on the surface of the earth.  Flat paper charts can't represent a Great Circle route.

Flat paper charts will, if properly followed, get you where you're going.  Mega-freighters travel the Great Circle routes, but we're ordinary cruisers.  Our Rhumb Line gets us where we're going, and that's all we need.
